About Together
Together reveals the countless ways two people are connected before the world tells them why they should be divided. Its promise is simple: see the person before the border.
Why it exists
Together is not for finding people who are most like you. It is for discovering how you are already related to people who seem far away: the same moon over both your nights, the same crops in both your fields, the same river running through two cities you have never linked in your head.
I do not think a website can end war, persecution or injustice. What I hope it can do is make dehumanisation a little harder, one genuine encounter at a time.
Who it is for
Adults, anywhere. For now anyone can open the live map, see the places people are visiting from, wave to another place and compare any two. Later, a small invited pilot will let people answer prompts and be introduced to one person at a time. That pilot has not started, and it will not start until the safety work on the safety page is done.
How I am building it
- Slowly and in the open. Every change is written up on the changelog, including what is not finished.
- Safety first. Before building anything people could use, I asked for a hostile review of the idea itself. What came out of it is on what Together will never become.
- Open data, properly credited. Every fact comes from a named source whose terms I have checked; they are all listed on where the facts come from.
- Light and fast. Pages are built on the server and work without JavaScript, on an old phone and a slow connection.

Together is built by Shane Rounce at Ace Media in Sheffield, United Kingdom. It is free to use while it is being built.
